Summer Activities

Overview
Over recent years, investment and devlopment has seen Tignes transformed into a natural playground, set amongst some of the highest and most stunning peaks in Europe. Each year the local authorities are placing more and more focus into making Tignes a summer destination.
Whether you are interested in skiing, golf, mountain biking, quad biking, paragliding, hiking, canyoning, skateboarding or just want to relax in the pool and hot tub or even take your time looking round the museum you will have no trouble keeping yourself amused in Tignes in summer! There are always special events and activities going on in the resort, have a read of the news section for updates.
This year the French world cup football squad used Tignes as it's training camp, for prepration before the tournament in Germany. The local residents are realising the importance and benefits of making Tignes an all year round resort and are therefore doing all they can to share what's on offer in the summer with the visitors. For the active and outdoor minded Tignes offers an exhilerating and exciting holiday whilst at the same time being a place for the whole family to relax and unwind.
Although the resort is mainly geared towards outdoor pursuits there is an increasing range of indoor activities such as climbing, volleyball and yoga, as well as the Orange Tignes mulitimedia centre in the Maison de Tignes in Le Lac. On top of this, the start of the summer saw the grand opening of the huge swimming and fitness center. This was the highlight for many visitors this year and is well worth checking out, especially on the odd day when the weather isn't great. For us the center really makes Le Lac the focal point during the summer months.
Other activities:
These days Tignes really has transformed and is a totally different place in the summer, compared to what going on in the winter. There are tennis courts, a football pitch, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, table tennis and table football. Behind which there's volleyball nets and a growing skateboard, BMX and roller blade community in the skate park. There is also " Acroland" with it's acro-bungee, trampolines, water slide and of course the spectacle that is 'the water jump' where people on snowboards, ski's and roller blades hurl themselves off one of the four jumps and fly straight into the lake. A great place to practice the acrobatics of these sports, also a good place to sit in the sun and watch the madness. And for those who want to take it easier there are plenty of themed trails and great walks to take. Remember there are lifts open, including the Aeroski to use which cuts down the uphill sections.
As like in the winter and progressively more so there are a number of companies that offer to organise activities, give lessons or supply guides as well as offering children's clubs. But again, like in the winter it is possible to move around the resort under your own steam whilst keeping yourself amused.

Traditionally Tignes focused on summer skiing and golf. Skiing on the glacier is obviously still available and as popular as ever. Particularly during June and July the summer park is one of the best summer parks in Europe.
Skiing and Snowboarding
The Tignes tourist board describes the summer skiing:
"There are 130 hectares, 20 km of pistes covering all standards, 750 m of vertical drop, the summer ski area at 3,000 m is waiting for you."
"The snowpark (750 m by 250 m) is the place for freestylers to hang out, with bumps and jumps for everyone, a cool zone. It's a top playground for real snowsports fans, and the soft summer snow is also ideal for beginners. The glacier is accessible to pedestrians, who can visit the Ice Grotto and see the glacier and surrounding peaks (Grande Casse, Grande Sassière, Mont Pourri, the Mont Blanc range, etc.). Take a trip into the heart of the high mountains!"
The park is built for all standards, Black for expert to Green for beginners. For a clearer picture click here!

Golf
The golf course really is a great place to spend summer days. Although there are no par 5 holes, the course is of a high standard and extremely well maintained. With holes around the lake and amongst the mountains it really is located in one of the best possible settings.

It is possible to hire clubs at the club house and it's possible to play 9 holes or the full 18. There is also a Golf Clinic available for beginners or those who want to improve. The clinic starts from €199/person and the price includes special introductory golf coaching clinic for 5 days (5 x 1 hr 45 instruction), end-of-clinic competition and one meal in the clubhouse at the fantastic Golf Restaurant. If you would like to book yourself a place before you arrive feel free to contact us.
Throughout the summer there are a number of golfing events held. Every Sunday there are various competitions held. Every Thursday there is the opportunity to review your handicap in the ranking competition. And once a year there is a Pro-Am Golf & Ski Tournament as well as the Savoie Championship, Team event and French Ski Instructors' Championship.
