ONE YEAR ON & THE SUM-IT JAM RETURNS TO TIGNES

13 February 2007

It all started here. After the success of the 2006 SUMiT JAM event, SUMiT has been pitting seasonaires against one another in a series of GPS inspired challenges across the Alps. Wednesday 31 Jan saw the long-awaited return of the event to Tignes as 40 seasonaires battled it out in the first SUMiT JAM of 2007.

GPS Trackers & Bacon Sarnies

SUMiT’s Craig and Josh were on hand to dish out the GPS trackers that would monitor the event. The Jam Bar’s Jamie and Morgan were there to dish out the beers and bacon sarnies that would revitalise the competitors after a gruelling time on the hill. Natives.co.uk were proud sponsors of the event, supplying great prizes for winners in the four categories.

SUMiT’s GPS Distance challenge.

As usual, the challenge is simple:

  • Rock up at the Jam Bar, Tignes with skis or board ready for an 11am Start
  • Get a GPS tracker from SUMiT

The rules?

  • Be back within 3 hours.
  • Don’t use the same lift more than twice.
  • Go ride, ride, ride!
  • Clock up as much distance travelled as possible.

Grazed knee & snapped snowboard

After a quick photo shoot things were under way at the stroke of 11am. Competitors had until 2pm to return or face heavy penalties. As always the competition was intense, but thankfully the injuries were limited to some grazed knees (falling getting off a bus at pace!) and a snapped snowboard after a spectacular wipe out.

Prize-giving in Tignes' favourite, the Jam Bar

Competitors returned and were more than ready for some refreshment while the SUMiT boys headed off to figure out who had won. Presentation time was scheduled for 10pm and the Jam bar lived up to its reputation once more – great service for seasonaires in a Jammed environment.

And the winners were...

  • Category- Winner- Distance Covered
  • Male Skier- Neil McKenzie- 59.38km
  • Female Skier- Brenda Kyte- 54.90km
  • Male Boarder- Ian Ballantyne- 63.61km
  • Female Boarder- Jo Swannell- 60.93km
