Chipie's Gear Review

Tignes Spirit team rider Stephen 'Chipie' Windross gives the low down on the ski gear he takes on adventures around the world...

AIRBLASTER - OSFM PEAKED HAT

This has been my go to hat for riding recently. It’s a sweet blend between warmth and practicality, with a visor that works well with goggles. Attach the velco chinstrap while you ski down the slopes and the good times will follow!

AIRHOLE - MERINO BALACLAVA

Merino rocks – FACT! Airhole have got this dialled with their signature 'breathe hole' that works great to keep your face warm and frostnip-free in deep powder or gnarly wind.

Planks - Vision Goggles

Nice colour range, fitting well with a good lens and they are superb value for money which is essential!

PATAGONIA - 'STRETCH NANO STORM' JACKET

Love the feel of the stretch of this jacket. It's warm yet waterproof and the pockets work well when you're wearing a harness. The vents are well placed to keep you cool when hiking up the mountain. Basically, this jacket ticks all the boxes!

PATAGONIA - SUPER ALPINE BIB Pant

I prefer bibs to pants on the mountain as I’m not a massive fan of having a wet bum! Luckily this is not an issue with these well designed and light bib pants.

ICEBREAKER - LODGE FANNEL SHIRT

I never know what a cheeky après ski session could lead to so this shirt is perfect for both on and off the hill! It works well for me as a base layer and, being merino, it usually doesn’t smell too bad after a day on the hill!

DPS - PURE 3 105 WAILER SKIS

DPS have been using carbon fibre in their skis longer than other companies, producing light weight but really strong skis that perform well touring up, as well as skiing down the mountain.  The 105 Wailer is a true work horse and my go-to ski if I don’t quite know what to expect on the way up or down. They are reliable and solid in all conditions.

VINTAGE SKI POLES

Stars and stripes poles with glittery handles and leather straps! I found these in a poubelle a few years ago and have since been using them all around the world. What I’ve learnt about poles is that light is not necessarily right, as I want to be able to rely on them to be strong enough to be used as a tool when required. Plus... I love a good pole whack!

Thanks Chipie!! You can purchase from the Patagonia, Airblaster and Airhole ranges through our online shop or at our store in Tignes le Lavachet.

The local Planks Clothing store is located in Tignes Val Claret or Val D'Isere and DPS Skis can be purchased through their online store!
